Saturday 29th october!

Come and share a "Louvre Museum" experience with your colleagues who took part into the Rutgers program this summer. They will give you ideas on how to integrate painting into your instruction.

Anne Reverseau, French scholar from Paris, offers a series of language teaching activities unisng paintings. Her presentation will focus on : "Eating and drinking in French art."

All participants will receive a CD containing all the activities and som additional information.

Agenda of the Workshop:

10.30 am: Show and Tell. Teachers' presentation of activities related to the integration of paintings in the classroom

- Location: The workshop will take place at Rutgers University, Douglass College Center, meeting Room B, fron 10 am to 2 pm (free parking)

Take the NJ Turnpike to exit 9. Proceed along Route 18 North past exit for "Route 27" and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University" (approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike). Note: this is the 2nd George St. exit. At the top of the exit ramp bear left onto George Street. Proceed one block and turn right on to Seminary Place.

Anne Reverseau, French scholar fron Paris, will be staying in the US from October 31st to November 5th 2005. She offers presentations and workshops on art in the French classroom. If you are interested in inviting her in your school/class, please contact us!

DVDs:

Following teachers' suggestions, the Center has acquired some French films that can be lent upon request. This is a free service.

Among our titles, we have recent French movies related to the Occupation period, some Jacques Tati's films (great to encourage students to speak French), cartoons, adaptations of French novels (My Father's Glory for example), some films about Europe, etc.

If you are interested in borrowing any of those, please let us know. If you wonder how to use them in your classroom, just ask, we also provide some activities along with the movies!

Music:

Available at the Center are some CDs of up-to-date French music that you can also request free of charge.

If you want to know about the tunes that are popular in France, new singers or songwriters, new types of music, or if you wonder how you could use music in your classroom...you can either attend our Café Français on January 22 2005, or contact the Center.

The Center is working in partnership with TV5 in New Jersey.

If you want to know more about TV5 programs and its use in the classroom, we can give you some advice or visit your class with a package of activities for your students and information for teachers.

Teachers ideas

If you have ideas or if you are creating programs, modules, etc. in your classrooms, do not hesitate to inform us. During the Year of Languages 2005, we could stress the wonderful work of the French teachers of New Jersey!

The Rutgers French Louvre program “Bringing the Louvre into the French Classroom” has indeed been officially confirmed for Summer 2005.  We are extremely pleased to be able to offer what will be a unique and exciting opportunity for teachers of French to earn credit while exploring the universe that is the Louvre, developing curricular materials for teaching art and culture, and exercising their French skills.

The program brochure and web pages (on this very site) will be available by the end of the month.  Here are some main points:

•       The program dates are July 17-29.

•       Classes take place in the Louvre with museum staff, under the direction of a Rutgers French faculty member, Prof. Carole Allamand. 

•       A variety of topics relating to teaching art and culture in the context of K-12 language teaching will be covered, including helping teachers prepare teaching units (fiches pedagogiques) for future use..  The course carries 3 credits, and is full-time during the 2 weeks.

•       Shared housing is provided in apartments in different locations in Paris, and is included in the program fee of $ 2700.  It is possible to arrange bringing a spouse or family member.  The fee also covers tuition, materials, and museum access; it does not cover most meals or the airflight.

•       The program can be counted towards an MAT degree, or as professional continuing education, and thus is potentially reimbursable.

•       The program is limited to 15 students.

Teachers who wish to apply to the program need first to be admitted to the Rutgers World Language Institute.  If you have not already applied to that program, you should go ahead and do so.   If you are already a WLI student (or a Rutgers MAT student), you need only submit your name.   In the weeks ahead, as we approach the time to approve applications, you will be contacted.
